Interview: Kate Kennedy

Kate Kennedy is Events and Operations Manager at the Venue at the Royal Liver Building. The intrigue of organising events for Kate began whilst packing delegate packs for conferences to help her Mum at work. Since, Kate has gained a range of events and hospitality experience by having a proactive and positive outlook at opportunities. This came into play most prominently for Kate at the 2012 Olympic Games as a corporate hospitality host for the sponsorship team. Kate’s enthusiasm for the events industry and unwavering commitment to her clients was made clear to The Concerto Group during her placement year as an events assistant and coordinator at London venue ‘OXO2’ in the OXO Tower. Before taking her post at The Venue, Kate graduated with a First Class Honours degree and achieved the Deans award prize for her level of hard work combined with continuing experience in the industry. Her dissertation explored events venues perspectives on health and safety implementation, specifically to sound restrictions – making her the perfect fit for The Venue’s health, safety & building operations manager.

You’ve recently joined The Venue to look after corporate and private events. What is it about The Venue and the Concerto Group you are most excited about?

The Venue is a new direction for the group & a new challenge for me personally.I’m most excited to see the potential of a great location materialise into an established events venue for fine dining, corporate parties & of course lots of weddings!

What makes the Venue at the Royal Liver Building special for you?

With my experience at the OXO Tower in London & now The Royal Liver Building in Liverpool… I think I have a thing for iconic buildings in fantastic cities!

Which has been your favourite event to work on so far?

A particular corporate event I held in January for the Capital FM launch to Liverpool stands out for me. With over 60 crew, a two week lead time, huge production & a celebrity performance, the event was a big accomplishment for The Venue & myself.

What do you like most about working in events?

It’s a continuing pleasure to be a part of some really special Weddings here at The Venue. I keep the coordination very true to the purpose of the day which for me is all about the love the couple have for each other & sharing it with their closest friends & family. I certainly wear my heart on my sleeve & I’m delighted to share the emotion with the couples I get to know as I see them take on a new chapter together – nothing can beat that on a weekly basis!

What would be your desert island luxury should you ever find yourself stranded on a desert island?

A pack of playing cards; I have an abundance of different versions of solitaire so I would never be bored, in fact, I’d feel like I was on holiday!
